FARMERS are gathering in Lang Lang to learn the latest about life on the land, and help raise funds for a new community retirement village.

Small Farming Victoria is a twoday field event to be held on 5 and 6 May at Lang Lang showgrounds. Small farmers can find out more about onfarm improvement, education, nutrition, animal husbandry and business management, as well as swap stories with other landholders and enjoy plenty of entertainment.

The field days are being run by the Rotary Club of KooweerupLang Lang to fund the first stage of a community retirement village.

There are about 3000 small farm holdings in the Cardinia Shire.

Geoff Reeve hatched the field day idea after seeing something similar on television.

He and his wife Lorraine run beef cattle on their small farm at Lang Lang and operate a transport business.

There are many people like us in the industry with another business that have come out to the country, purchased a few hectares and need to know how to look after them, he said.
