VANDALS ripped a commercial sign from its stand and used it to smash a plate glass window in a Loveridge Walk, Berwick, building last Sunday night.

Loveridge Walk business people have expressed concern that the building was vacant and a target for vandals.

However, proprietor John Loveridge said on Monday that plans were in hand to have the building refurbished.

Mr Loveridge said keen interest had been shown in the building and a tenancy was in final negotiations.

We cannot begin the work until negotiations are complete, but we expect the building to become an icon in the village, he said.

The Loveridge family still hold title to Loveridge Walk, but Mr Loveridge said the building would not encroach on the thoroughfare.
