CASEY Council fitted 64 child restraints to cars during a free child restraint seat check event.

Casey manager community safety Caroline Bell said that nearly 50 drivers also received valuable information on car safety.

Ms Bell said Casey had been involved in running free child restraint checking sessions for five years.

She said 64 seats checked were incorrectly fitted.

Fortunately, as a result of the safety checks 64 children are now safer in their seats, Ms Bell said.

I congratulate parents, grandparents and carers who participate in our safety checks for putting safety first and getting their childs restraint professionally checked.

It is easy to have a child restraint professionally checked and fitted, and this is the simplest and most effective way to protect your child in an accident.

Ms Bell said experts recommend that children need different restraints as they grow, and that seats must match the size and weight of the child.

It is vital that the restraint is correctly installed in the car and that the straps are adjusted to hold the child in snugly.
