STACEY Broughton is a cando person.
The Chairo Christian School student spearheaded a foodraising effort that saw more than 1000 tins of spaghetti, soup, baby food, tuna and vegetables donated to charity.
At Staceys request, every student at the Pakenham school brought tinned food from home.
The cans were donated to the 4Cs (Cardinia Combined Churches Caring) Food Bank, which will distribute them to needy families.
Stacey, 13, said she was inspired to help after her mother participated in a recent bread run for the emergency food bank, which has a growing list of clients around Cardinia Shire.
We raised 1060 cans over two weeks. It was a big effort because there are only 200 kids at the school, Stacey said.
Food bank director Jeni Mathieson said the donation was gratefully accepted.
Stacey has done an amazing job, she said.
Stacey, from Maryknoll, said she was pleased to help.
Students, who next week have a casual dress day as a reward, were already planning to raise more tins next year, she said.
The Gazette reported recently that 4Cs was already spending $3000 a month on food for people in need and was struggling to keep up with demand.
