CASEY Council provided $600 from ward funds to have a large granite rock moved to Kalora Park, Narre Warren North, to be the centrepiece of the Narre Warren North Memorial Garden.
Four Oaks Ward councillor Rob Wilson asked during the Tuesday, 15 August council meeting for assistance to have the rock put in place.
He allocated $300 from Four Oaks Ward funds and Edrington Ward councillors Brian Hetherton and Mick Morland provided $200 and $100 to the project.
Cr Wilson said Narre Warren North resident Kim McGill suggested that a corner of Kalora Park be set aside for a memorial garden, and a committee was formed to progress the idea.
(Narre Warren resident) Bob Street was able to negotiate the acquisition of a large granite rock from a nearby quarry, but we needed the money to have the rock transported to the site, Cr Wilson said.
It will be a centre piece for the memorial garden.
This land is part of the section of Narre Warren North allocated in 14acre lots to returned soldiers.
A plaque will show the names of people who farmed the land.
The committee has expressed thanks to Hanson Construction Materials of Lysterfield for making the rock available.
