KAMBRYA College will hold a planting day on Monday, 28 August to celebrate the start of its new horticulture centre.
Kambrya will receive a Greening Australia CityLink School Revegetation Grant that has led to the college fulfilling its dream of creating an indigenous garden.
This is the first step toward establishing the horticulture centre.
Students will join with Greening Australia staff for the planting day.
Kambrya is one of 10 schools to win a 2006 revegetation grant, offered as part of CityLink and Greening Australias Schools for the Environment Program.
The grants enable Greening Australia to assist the winning schools plan, coordinate, and deliver an innovative revegetation project.
Greening Australia also provides technical and handson support to ensure each project makes a valuable contribution to the environment, the community and the school curriculum.
Greening Australia chief executive Carl Carthy said 60 primary and secondary schools applied for the CityLink grants.
It is a credit to Kambrya College that it was able to develop a standout yet viable initiative that will be beneficial to both students and the environment, he said.
Kambrya College plans to create a school horticulture centre to teach the importance of sustainability and the environment.
The centre will eventually be used for students to cultivate indigenous plants and will be available to other schools.
