ONE MORE PIC TO COME BOOKS are big, bright and beautiful. Libraries and schools in the CaseyCardinia region are celebrating Childrens Book Week, highlighting all that is great about reading. Special activities will be held at local libraries throughout the week under the theme of Book Now. Authors will talk about the secrets behind their works and schools are also hosting plenty of activities focused on the wonderful worlds between the covers of books. To help celebrate Book Week, the Gazette has asked local people to talk about a childrens book they liked best. Nar Nar Goon North author Alison Lester was last years winner of the Australian Childrens Book Council picture book of the year award with Are We There Yet? She said her favourite childrens book at the moment was Clancy the Courageous Cow by Lachie Hume. I know there is a bias, this is my sons first book, she said. To see it grow from an idea in year seven to be published recently; it is funny, the kids connect to the drawings and the book has a good message. Kindergarten assistant Linda Pettiford from Pakenhams Andrews Community Kinder nominated Possum Magic. She said she liked the story because it helped children recognise Australian animals. The kids enjoy it and its beautifully illustrated as well, she said. Tamara Monson at Garfield Primary School said Adults Only by Morris Gleitzman was her favourite. I like it because it has a different storyline, she said. Classmate Dale Barker went for Too Chicken by Pat Quinn. Its very funny, he said. Humour was also the key for Thomas from Berwick Lodge Primary School who nominated Emilys Rapunzel Hair. Thomas said he enjoyed this book because it made him laugh. %26gt;%26gt;%26gt; Whats your favourite book? Email the Gazette at editorstarnewsgroup.com.au.
