STUDENTS stopped eating on the weekend to raise money for children in East Timor.
More than 100 year 10 students from St Francis Xavier School, Beaconsfield, took part in the 40 Hour Famine.
The students were restricted to just barley sugar and water for 40 hours.
The school was confident the students improved on last years total, which donated $3000 to World Vision.
Four St Francis Xavier students trained at a World Vision information session in July to lead participating students in the famine.
Deputy principal Mark Brockus said it was a learning experience for students that made them conscious of other kids in need rather than just themselves.
The school has participated in the annual event for five years.
